After the party, I got to thinking about a lot of things. First, what an awesome feeling it was to be the center of that much positivity. And then there were other ideas…
I want to do that sort of thing more.
And I want to do something positive for someone other than myself. Not as payback really, but just because I think I could have fun doing it. And maybe it’d be an excuse to drink good beer with good friends again.
So my mind percolated and brewed and then it came to me.
Why not do something for the communities that came together for me, in a way that represents them.
Why not a festival of the weird? We could even call it, “The Austin Festival for the Weird”.
With a renaissance/geek/burner theme combo.
Maybe at the Enchanted Forest off of Oltorf.
You walk up, and there are stormtroopers manning the gate to the event. Their commander…just happens to be wearing a kilt.
You browse your way into the place, and looking around you see a miriad variation of wares. Leatherwork, modern art, jewelry, dice (this would be a product near and dear to my heart….), shiny stuff. And all of it sold by people in renaissance wear….with a twist.
Basically, take a ren faire, tweek it for creativity’s sake, and then run with it. Get performers to come in.
Make it a truly Austin event.
And use it to make money to use for good purposes. Give back to the community that makes Austin a place we all love.
I don’t have all the details worked out in my head yet. But I really want to do this. I just don’t know if I know how, or what sort of help I’ll need to do it. I know it’d be a TON of work, but I think it would be amazingly rewarding. I’m guessing at fall 2009.
You are The Magician
Skill, wisdom, adaptation. Craft, cunning, depending on dignity.
Eleoquent and charismatic both verbally and in writing,
you are clever, witty, inventive and persuasive.
The Magician is the male power of creation, creation by willpower and desire. In that ancient sense, it is the ability to make things so just by speaking them aloud. Reflecting this is the fact that the Magician is represented by Mercury. He represents the gift of tongues, a smooth talker, a salesman. Also clever with the slight of hand and a medicine man – either a real doctor or someone trying to sell you snake oil.

Every day since last Friday has just gotten better and better.
Sunday, yet again, I slept in a bit. Not as much as I’d have liked, but sufficiently. I got a lot accomplished that morning. Got some laundry done. Went to my in-laws’ place and fixed a doorknob and their mower for them. Picked up Jacob, who had stayed with his grandparents so that Coleen and I could go to the party. Went grocery shopping. Went to Dagan’s and gamed for a good 8 hours or more straight. AWESOME! I got to play an evil force user.
Need I say more about the game? I could. But I’d release too much of my geekery upon the world, and we can’t have that.
Monday, I got quite a bit done at work. Both works actually, and I was just generally in a good mood all day. A rarity for me up until this last weekend. I really think this last weekend was the injection of light I’ve been needing for a while in this crappy tunnel I’ve been traveling through.
Tuesday, was in a good mood yet again. Had lunch with Connon at Wendy’s. Greasy food and friends. Plus, I had an awesome idea, which will receive it’s own post later on. Still hashing things out in muh head. Work at the second job went well too. Was complimented by a few customers, and that always makes my day. About the only bummer was looking through the video game section when I was on my break and realizing they don’t make the kinds of video games I like any more. Eh well. Can’t afford them right now anyhow.
Today, I had to do the court run at work. I love doing it. I get out of the office, and get out into the world. I get some time to myself, and I can get out of the house a bit. Tried red beans and rice for the first time. OMFGWTFBBQBADGERS! I never knew the stuff was so good. I’m going to have to work on my own recipe now. I love cooking, and cooking something hearty and yummy is my favoritest. Mine will likely have beef bits added in. MEAT. mmm… Anyhow, I also feel a sense of accomplishment. I got a really good deal at Fry’s on an ergonomic keyboard and mouse. We’ve been needing to get one for Coleen because she’s got two slipped disks in her lower neck, which is effecting her shoulder and arms with various symptoms. The keyboard helps keep her from straining and irritating the disks, and tissues around them, which prevents pain and such. AND, she doesn’t have to take muscle relaxers which mess her up, and are expensive. YAY.
Also today, I get to spend time with Jacob. It’s one of the things which is quickly making Wednesdays my favorite day of the week. He got his report card in. One C+, the rest are As and Bs. C+ was in handwriting. It’s to be expected. He’s a ten year old boy who hates reading and has dyslexia. Whatchagonnado… He’s also about to test for his blue belt in Karate. It was just mid-february when he got his advanced yellow belt, and he’s already advancing again. It’s kind of costy to pay for the test, but it’s well worth it. He’s gotten so much self-confidence from the karate that it’s been a huge difference. Now if only he’d learn a touch more self-discipline…. But like I said, he’s ten. *shrug*
All in all, it’s nice being happy again.
I think I found your soulmate…
