After the party, I got to thinking about a lot of things. First, what an awesome feeling it was to be the center of that much positivity. And then there were other ideas…
I want to do that sort of thing more.
And I want to do something positive for someone other than myself. Not as payback really, but just because I think I could have fun doing it. And maybe it’d be an excuse to drink good beer with good friends again.
So my mind percolated and brewed and then it came to me.
Why not do something for the communities that came together for me, in a way that represents them.
Why not a festival of the weird? We could even call it, “The Austin Festival for the Weird”.
With a renaissance/geek/burner theme combo.
Maybe at the Enchanted Forest off of Oltorf.
You walk up, and there are stormtroopers manning the gate to the event. Their commander…just happens to be wearing a kilt.
You browse your way into the place, and looking around you see a miriad variation of wares. Leatherwork, modern art, jewelry, dice (this would be a product near and dear to my heart….), shiny stuff. And all of it sold by people in renaissance wear….with a twist.
Basically, take a ren faire, tweek it for creativity’s sake, and then run with it. Get performers to come in.
Make it a truly Austin event.
And use it to make money to use for good purposes. Give back to the community that makes Austin a place we all love.
I don’t have all the details worked out in my head yet. But I really want to do this. I just don’t know if I know how, or what sort of help I’ll need to do it. I know it’d be a TON of work, but I think it would be amazingly rewarding. I’m guessing at fall 2009.
